Dental Services for Children

Your child’s first visit to the dentist should be a happy one!  At Driftwood Dental, we love to see kids smile and it's especially adorable when they giggle while having their young teeth polished.

We Offer General Anaesthesia for Children

We're proud to provide General Anesthesia for children who do not enjoy a visit to the dentist. With GA, our team can* help your child out of pain, provide treatment for children with special needs or children in need of extensive dental work who may not be able to sit still for longer appointments. Our pediatric dentist Dr. Alex Chen is also here for your children should they require a specialist appointment.

*You do not need a referral to visit us or for a consultation about your child's oral health needs.

Your Child's First Visit

Positive dental experiences begin in childhood. Your child’s first dental visit is an exciting time in their development and we strive to make it a fun experience.

The first “regular” dental visit should be just after your child's third birthday and it’s usually short and involves very little treatment.

We may ask you to sit in the dental chair and hold your child during the examination or you may be asked to wait in the reception area during part of the visit so that a relationship can be built between your child and the dentist.

Many parents worry about how their child will react the first time they visit the dentist.

Here are a few tips on how you can prepare your child, and set them up for a lifetime of healthy smiles.

What to Expect

The first appointment is all about making your child feel more comfortable.

Our dentists will perform a comprehensive dental examination followed by a conversation about nutrition and good oral hygiene habits.

Usually, a professional dental cleaning, fluoride therapy and any necessary x-rays can also be completed during this visit; however, this can wait if your child isn’t quite ready.

Preparing Your Child

What should you tell your child prior to their appointment? We’re asked this question often, and we suggest preparing children the same way you would before their first haircut or trip to the shoe store.
